Under 125 gallon tank = 5 ft minimum
125-500 gallon tank = 10 ft minimum
501-2000 gallon tank = 25 ft minimum

Typically your yearly propane usage divided by two would be a good start in knowing the tank size to go with.

Common tanks used are the following approximate sizes:

250 gallon = 7’10” long, 30″ diameter
